I. Introduction

Backorders happen, but customers can grow impatient. Fortunately, our system allows you to "split" customers' orders to allow the SKUs that are in stock to be sent to your customer while items on backorder remain behind to be fulfilled upon arrival of new stock.

*NOTE* you CANNOT split orders where the only SKUs out of stock are inserts.

II. Instructions

Step 1. On the header, hover over the "Orders" tab and click on "Backorder".

Step 2. Select the order you need to split. For this example, we need to split the backorder for order number "M9681118"

Step 3. Hover your cursor over "Other Actions" and click "Split Backorder" and click "Ok" when prompted to continue. After a few seconds the order status will change to "Processing".

Step 4. To verify the split went through properly, check the "Processing" tab in orders. You'll see your order has been moved to this section. If you click on it and scroll down to "Product Information", you'll see all that all the SKUs from the original order will be there with the exception of the SKU that was out of stock.

The SKU that was out of stock was moved to a duplicate order with the same order number as the original "M9681118" and a hyphen with the word backorder. This duplicate order was moved to the "Backorder" section where it'll remain till new inventory arrives to satisfy the order. Meanwhile, the original order will go out with the rest of the order items that are in stock.

You're Done! Remember that you CANNOT split orders where the only SKUs out of stock are inserts.
